2008-03-04

Ningbo has a long history of making foil-gilt lacquerwork. This is evidenced by a vermilion painted wooden cowl at the 7000-year-old Hemudu Cultural Ruins The foil-gilt lacquerwork in Ningbo is made mainly using raw lacquer material, and wood is mainly used as the main body of lacquerwork, though sometimes bamboo slice or bamboo-braided product is used. The foil-gilt lacquer ware is divided into three categories in terms of design: embossed pattern, flush pattern and sunk pattern. Lacquerwork is one of the main export handicrafts.
