Originally called Yuanxiao, the rice dumpling has its dough made of local premium glutinous rice, and itd stuffing made of fine white sugar, black sesame seeds and quality lard. Thus the rice dumpling tastes delicious, sweet, smooth and glutinous, a unique food loved by all and never found elsewhere. For local Ningbo residents, it has been customary to eat rice dumpling on the first morning of every lunar new year, a move to express happiness, family union and luck. Also, some overseas Chinese observe that habit too.
